design a career in music

Artist development coaching + high level mentoring

If you or your child are ready to take music to the next level, let’s chat.

Is this for you?

>> You’ve got the talent and the drive, but you need a mentor to guide you through your next steps in the music industry.

>> You want someone to work with you regularly to help you find and reach your next level.

>> You’re ready to create your next (or first!) creative project, like an EP, album, or show.

Here are some examples of what we can do together...

>> Create your single, EP, or album. From song selection to studio support to marketing to throwing a release party, I can walk you through every step.

>> Develop your brand as an artist. This could include logo creation, website, photography styling, and generally developing an irresistibly unique style.

>> Get you stage and interview ready. Get professional advice for putting a band together, stage presence, poise, and booking and media pitching skills.

>> Songwriting. If you work in country, pop, or rock, we can cowrite or I can give feedback on what you’ve already written.

>> Content creation. Formulate a social media calendar that works for you and won’t burn you out.

Hey, I'm Emma Jo.

I’m a multi-award winning Nashville recording artist, based in Kansas City. I’ve been involved in the music industry almost my whole life. I’ve recorded and released six albums, amassed over 100k streams on Spotify, landed great reviews and interviews,  played in front of sold out clubs and huge festival crowds, and even played gigs in Japan and Thailand.

I’m also a certified coach with a Masters degree and lots of experience teaching and mentoring.

The music business can be an unfriendly and overwhelming place. I have navigated these waters. I had mentors, but I also learned a lot of things the hard way.

I believe in supporting other artists, I believe in mentorship, and I believe in sharing my experiences and missteps to help others.

Frequently asked questions

My approach is really holistic, because as an artist myself, I know it has to be. Improving musical skills is super important, but so is building confidence and stage presence and marketing. Every artist receives personalized guidance tailored to their age and career stage.

Absolutely! Individual coaching is customized to suit artists at different stages of their musical journey. For younger artists, the focus is more on building foundational skills and confidence. For older artists, we often concentrate on advanced techniques, career strategies, and real-world opportunities to help them professionalize their passion. But every artist is different, so I’ll meet you where you are.

Please note that the Savvy Songbirds membership is for girls and women ages 16 and up.

Yes, I offer both in-person and virtual coaching depending on the situation. For clients in the Kansas City area, in-person is always available. I’m also in Nashville fairly often, so a hybrid arrangement may be available for Nashville clients. For everyone else, Zoom will be our method for our full sessions.

You’re right to be concerned. Having grown up in the industry myself, I prioritize the mental and emotional well-being of my artists. I’m a certified coach with a lot of experience in teaching resilience and stress management, acknowledging the pressures of the music industry. My goal is to empower your child not just musically, but also to thrive personally in any environment.

No one can guarantee success in the music industry (and in any case, success looks different for everyone)! But I do believe in equipping my artists with tools, knowledge, and opportunities that, without which, success would be difficult.
